»I try to reduce the image to its essential form by eliminating all that’s redundant. I look for images that can be stripped down, sober and unadorned. Pared-down images, but strong and poetic: the image of a collective memory becomes a universal language. The superfluous is gone, what's left is the real memory, the essential in its simplicity and effectiveness, what you need to keep on strengthening the pillar of your existence.

The ›wavy‹ embossing refers to old photographs that were in vogue some 80 years ago that had an undulating border added while developing the photo, contrasting the squareness of the image. This ›old look‹ is contrasted with the subject itself; it contradicts this embossed vintage photoframe. I don´t only use this vintage’ embossed framing, but also a rather recent image framing – although it is almost vanished too – that of SX-70, the format of the instant polaroid images, predecessor of the Iphone framing... «
